Some people may respond well to big change in their life, but most of us would achieve greater success if we first establish smaller goals to progress us toward the bigger goal. If you tell yourself you will go to the gym every day this week and then you only make it in 3 or 4 times, you may feel like you have let yourself down.
Realistically though, 3 or 4 days per week for a gym work out is great, especially if you are new to exercise. So why not set yourself a goal of 3 times per week to begin with?
Changing poor eating habits is a good idea, but break it down into small goals. For example: in your first week increase your water intake, in your second week cut back on pop and sugar snacks, in your third week increase your fiber and vegetable servings while cutting back a little bit more on the sugary foods. If you baby step your way towards your fitness goals, you are more likely to succeed in reaching them.
Always consult a physician before beginning an exercise program. Discontinue an exercise if you feel any pain or discomfort.
